Appearance
Standing at 5'11, Julian's appearance is an interesting combination of two differing races. His hair is dark and short, just long enough to be pulled into a bun at the top of his head, and his ears are rounded and adorned with two copper hoops in each earlobe. His face is angular yet soft, his full lips and pierced greek nose framed by a strong jaw and filmy silver eyes. His body is also remarkably lean and well-built for swimming, unlike his notoriously brawny ancestors. As for clothing he tends to wear billowy shirts, patched up trousers and hunting boots, nothing too outrageously different from others who live in Lower Nivenhain.
The most remarkable aspect of Julian's appearance is his skin. It is medium in tone, but on the warmer parts of him (his lips and cheeks, for example) he flushes a frosty indigo blue instead of a ruddy pink. The way that he moves is also something of note, as he has a noticeable limp to his right leg which sometimes requires a crutch.
Personality
Julian has learned to carry himself a certain way in order to weed out the characteristics of himself that others might view as inferior, such as his stiff leg and his Nameless status. His body language is firm and sometimes a bit defensive. He was taught to be gruff to those that he does not trust, and sometimes can be downright paranoid when faced with those who are perceived as a threat to him. Those who stick around longer learn that Julian is very hospitable and has a natural desire to care for others. He is a valuable asset to have; a person that will patch you up after a tavern brawl and give you a place to sleep in front of his hearth.
History
Julian hatched in the sitting room of his grandfather's townhouse. It was unexpected that he was going to survive for long. Unbeknownst to him, his former Vethcairn grandfather Thanasis had taken a long and perilous journey to get himself and Julian's egg to safety- one that almost cost their lives. Julian's birth was like a shimmering ember of hope for the man to start a new life, weak but thriving. The poor babe was born with a stiff leg caused by a jostling during their journey to Lorien, and he was incredibly sickly from days of being away from warmth, but the man slowly managed to nurse him back to health.
This dynamic of Thanasis being Julian's keeper persisted into adolescence. Lower Nivenhain was not a safe place for the young boy to be wandering off by himself, so instead he took solace in the presence of his grandfather who he affectionately called 'Thappa'. Many days were spent in front of the hearth being told stories of sea life and the origin of the Druskai race. Thanasis was not hesitant to be honest with the boy about the brutish nature of the Vethcairn, but always spared him the origins of his birth. That, his grandfather said, was something to be kept to himself until he felt like Julian was ready. Julian never questioned his reasoning behind it. After all, his grandfather was the one who taught him everything that he knew and Julian trusted his judgement over anything. For the time being, some things were better kept a mystery.
Into his adolescence, Julian started to come into his own skin. He started to show interest in things such as hunting and trapping, but he also discovered that he had a strong desire to learn cosmetology. Thanasis was just as supportive of his prospects as he would be if Julian became a soldier; he'd seen enough barbarians in his lifetime, and he was almost grateful that his grandson didn't want to join their ranks.
Julian's cosmetology plans died when his grandfather collapsed in their home one afternoon. A major flaw to his grandfather's nurturing nature was that he cared for others even when he should've been caring for himself, which led to a massive skin growth that'd turned infected and weakened his heart. Their dynamic swapped that day, and shortly afterward Julian decided to become a doctor's assistant in order to become a better caregiver for the man who had always been there for him.
Simply keeping his grandfather alive is never enough. It's hard to take comfort in the days where it seems like the older man is making a breakthrough, because death seems to be constantly lurking around every corner. Julian is not naive to the fact that Druskai have a tendency to die without notice, so every day feels like a bomb ticking down to the moment where his beloved Thappa ceases to exist. There was one night where it seemed to be the end of the road for the two of them. Before Julian was able to stabilize him, his grandfather croaked out how he wished that he would be able to see Julian grow older.
The comment burned a hole in his brain for the next couple days, but at the end of the tunnel it provided him with an uneasy sense of clarity. He could provide his grandfather a longer life- hell, even an immortal one. All he needed was the proper equipment and a few dead bodies to practice on... and as for his grandfather being aware of it all?
Like other things, he's going to keep that to himself.
