The siltori's eyes softened with the doctor's declaration, and a bow of her head relayed her gratitude. "You are most kind, Mr. Faust." The softness in her gaze hardened a little as she turned to Asmodei. "Was that so hard?" She asked so very matter-of-factly.
The avialae merely rolled his eyes and turned away from both the elf and the man. That was until Cyrus shared his own story with them, and both avialae and siltori looked to him with surprise. One another exchanged a glance, then Fayeth bowed her head.
"You're brave to share such things so openly. I'm sorry for the hardships you've faced at the hands of others. It's good that you found your true mother through it, however." Her eyes watched his hands while he worked. Obviously, the practice of pushing a tube into the chest of another was dangerous in itself. But, she trusted in his judgement and smiled when the Rathari's breathing normalized.
"We really did pick the right doctor this time," offered the siltori with a kind gaze. "Just how bloody are your hands, Mr. Faust? Where do you draw the line and where do your loyalties lie?" The glare of her crimson eyes was set on him with piqued interest. Some might find her gaze unsettling, as it carried a distinctly dark hunger, and a veiled, but burning hatred.
"Chitchat aside," spoke the avialae abruptly, "amputation isn't ideal, but understandable given the circumstances. Salvaging the elbow would help, as it's not likely we'll be able to convince a necromancer or artificer to help given his circumstances. Prosthetics are an option with his elbow intact." He needn't say more. The odds of a licensed artificer or a necromancer voluntarily helping a nameless were next to nothing. Nameless criminals? Blood from a stone.
The wounds on the arm were severe. Broken bones poked through the scales in two parts, buckled from a heavy impact. Bleeding beneath the scales showed in the form of a darkened bruise that spread out from the punctured scales and crept up toward the elbow before fading into it's normal coloration. Saving the arm would take leagues of skill, months of surgery and plenty of luck... but the elbow? It appeared intact.
"If you could close the wound on his eye too, that would be grand. I fear it will become infected again otherwise."

"No need to apologize, Its what has made me the man I am today." I acknowledged, my eyes never leaving Arkash's frame as I worked. The more I patched him up the more I was fascinated by the Rathari physiology.

When the woman expressed her gratitude that they had found the perfect doctor, I couldnt help but look at her, as now the question of just how many doctors had they gone through before finding him. He was curious, but I let it alone for the time being as I worked. Her next inquiry made me look to her again, and then going back to Arkash. She was rather interested in that it seemed, the red in her eyes seeming to glow.

I would answer, but without revealing too much about my work. "I have killed my fair share of infested patients. Though I say this as I believe that the mortal races are infected by the disease of greed, selfishness, vanity, and so on and so forth. I've also have killed those who abuse those they love. One of my dear patients lost her baby due to her abusive husband. My hands are as red with blood as your eyes, but I dont regret any of their deaths." I admited, nodded to the winged male as I focused my attention on the rathari's eye.

Cleaning it wasnt a problem, It was closing it that i struggled with. There was no easy way to stitch through scales, but I found it was possible after some try and error. "Is there anything else you wish for me to check for while I'm here. I may bot be the best, but I want to make sure he is taken care of." I noted, as I finished patching up his eye.

After sometime, I finally could here the rain as it beat against the roof of the barn, the squeaking of the mouse.

"I see," spoke the fair elf who reclined in her seat, content to let the doctor do his work. The eye was damaged by whatever had caused the wound on his head; he wouldn't be able to see from it again. As such, she had no problem with the human that poked needles around such a sensitive spot. The tightening of the thread pulled on the scales of his face, and lifted his lip as the the wound was sealed. The result wasn't particularly aesthetically pleasing, but it was better than another infection.
"You have a code," spoke Asmodei with intrigue. He drew closer to the procedure and watched the technique carefully. It was a sort of morbid curiosity that lined his eyes. It was hard to tell if he'd suffered similar injuries due to the armor that he wore, but he at least showed interest in how such cuts were treated... That was until his gaze lifted to Cyrus's eyes. "And does your code extend to the most greedy of them all? Or do you only target the weaklings that scamper about the gutters?" It might not have been clear what exactly the false argent talked about, but it left a fire in his eyes.
"Settle down," warned Fayeth. "Let's not forget that the good doctor is doing us great kindness, regardless of the social status of his prey." Asmodei looked to Fayetha glance, then bowed his head. Another glance settled on Cyrus before the giant stepped away from the bed, and resumed his pacing. "Forgive my husband," spoke Fayeth with sincerity. "We're passionate about our ideals, both. So much so that it's easy to forget just how extreme an outsider might view us." She threw her voice almost scornfully to the winged protector for the last few words of her sentence, an obvious warning.
"You've seen great pain, Mister Faust. Though I empathize with you, my husband does raise a point of intrigue. Are the castes spared your knife? Or does your... cure... reach the savants, lustrians, argent and celebrant?" There was a sort of inquisitive gaze about her, as though she evaluated the human with every word he spoke. Given her string of questions, that was likely to be the case.
On the subject of what else needed to be checked, however, Fayeth looked over the unconscious rathari. "Other than the arm, not much. If you aren't prepared to amputate it this visit, that's fine. Asmodei will walk you home, and then be back in the morning to finish the procedure if that's something you're comfortable with. Arkash isn't going anywhere."

☠ I was finding these two to quite the pair. The large winged male didnt seem to enjoy my answer, but it was the truth and I'm sure even he could tell as much. There was no need to lie about it, my hands were stained with the blood of the infected, and I regretted nothing.

"Indeed I do. Heal the sick, help the unwanted, and cure the infected." I spoke, looking over the Rathari's arm. It was bad, more so than I first realized, and unfortunately for the poor thing, that arm was going to have to go. The good thing is that he wouldn't lose his entire arm. I would have to take it from where his forearm met his elbow, which meant if he was lucky enough, he could gain a prosthetic down the line.

Going into my surgeon's bag I listened as the woman apologized for her husband's accusing tone, which only made me smile a little. It kinda reminded me of my adoptive family. The siltori woman was so much like Regina is was a little unnerving at the time, and I often found myself trying not to call her mother as we conversed during all this. The male, stoic and stern, was so much like Nicholi too, making me feel as if I was still under his tutelage in the art of necromancy and affliction.

"Truly you need not apologize, as I stated, I dont mind. We are all idealists in some way, and I admire your passion. The work one does without passion behind it is hollow work and bears no fruit." I assured her. From my kit, I retrieved another vial of sanitizer, something to dull the pain, though he wouldn't feel it now he most certainly would once he has awoken, and more wrappings. Finally, I pulled the small surgical saw and sat it next to Arkash on the bed when her last inquiry hit my ears.

At that moment, our eyes locked, and I could see the burning curiosity in hers, crimson flames boring into me with the utmost anticipation on my answer. Calmly I placed my hands on Arkash's arm, feeling for the best spot to sever the arm as I spoke. "That would be like asking death who it prefers to take first. Be it celebrant or nameless, Argent knight or Omenite, the cure is unbiased and comes for those plagued with mortality's gravest pathogens." I confirmed, taking the cleansing vial and dumping the contents on the arm.

I nodded when she spoke of the amputation, already preparing to sever it at the elbow. "I'm afraid that if we wait for the morning to come, a new host of infections will take root in him, better to do it now and stabilize him than let it sit as it is." I added, looking at where the healthy flesh and scales met the rotted and infected, and with the saw in hand, began to grate against the bone.

The sound alone was enough to make an average man cringe, not to mention feeling meat and bone crack and grate against an untrained saw hand. This was my first surgery after all, but I was determined, and that's all I needed to push through. Luckily for me, the rathari wasnt that bulky, so sawing through only took thirty minutes at the most. The hard part came after.

Quickly I grabbed the last vial of sanitizer from the surgeon kit and poured it on the fresh amputation, immediately wrapping it up in ointment laced wrapping. Wiping the sweat from my forehead and inspected my work, wondering what else this woman and her husband had in store for me.

With Cyrus's clarification delivered, Fayeth couldn't help but look to the false argent with a sort of 'I told you so' smile. Something about his answer made Asmodei's stern glare withdraw. He exhaled deeply, then bowed his head to the human. "Apologies, Mister Faust. I'm far too familiar with the honorless cretins in the world; those that exercise judgement freely on those without the power to defend themselves and stay their hands against greater powers." His eyes glanced at Fayeth where he stood, and pulled a smile at the corner of his lips. "We're both glad this isn't the case with you."
Cyrus seemed to appease both of the ideologues, and while it was certain that their ideals had something to do with equality between the castes of society, it perhaps wasn't all that clear what their drives were, nor their endgame. Perhaps he didn't realize what sort of game he had stepped into? He would soon know, as it seemed they wouldn't be done with his services for some time, even after all his wounds had been treated.
While he prepared to amputate the arm, Fayeth looked away for a moment. "You're truly godsent, Mister Faust. I don't know what we'd do without you." Indeed, the Rathari's state had been nigh critical before the human's arrival, but he breathed well thanks to Cyrus's treatment. Though his face was scrunched up due to the tug of scales in the stitching, it wouldn't get reinfected; it wouldn't get worse. "You're free to perform the amputation now if you see it fit."
Again, Asmodei approached the scene of the procedure as more of his morbid curiosity bared itself to the dim amber light of the fire. Even so, he asked no questions when Cyrus applied the disinfectant salve to the arm. Perhaps he was just supervising? But then, he showed quite a lot of interest in each step to the procedure. He must have had an interest in medicine.
Arkash's skinny limb was comparatively easy to saw through and made a good first surgery for the doctor, no doubt. Due to the lower temperature in the room, Arkash's body reacted slowly. He didn't bleed as quickly when his scales were torn through, and he almost seemed to leak at a pace similar to if he had custard for blood. That wasn't the case, of course. Arkash was just ectothermic, and the lower temperature of his body meant that his heart didn't beat as fast, and his blood ran slower.
Before too long, his broken bones were cut cleanly through, his stump was freshly disinfected, and the wound was wrapped. There was only a small puddle of blood at the place of the amputation, despite the relatively short length of the operation.
Once he was done, the siltori stood and closed the gap between herself and the human. There, she placed a hand on his shoulder, then, if he allowed it, drew him into a hug. "Thank you," she spoke through a deep exhale, then released him. "Without your help, I fear he wouldn't have lasted much longer. We'll need your eyes in the coming days to ensure that none of his wounds fester more." She smiled genuinely at him, then unhanded him completely. "Asmodei will walk you home now. Let us know what your price is and we'll have the farthings for you within the coming days."
With that said, Asmodei approached the pair, and rested his hands over his front patiently.

☠ I wasnt surprised by his words, its what I expected from him. He was correct though, this world, this city alone was riddled with an infestation. It only reminded me just how important my work was, my medicine as well as spreading the cure pandemic that plagues the mortal races.

I was glad that I could help, my pride as a doctor giving me some self-worth in my practice. I was glad that the amputation went as well as it did, I was worried honestly. With a sigh of relief, I began to put my tools away when Fayeth approached, placing her hand on my shoulder.

Her embrace through me off guard if anything, a split second I thought to reach for my gun, but I relaxed as she spoke. I needed no thanks, its what I would do anyway. I was slightly frozen in fear, but embraced her back. "I assure you I need no thanks, and I'm surely not a godsend." I whispered, a smile on my face as I patted her back.

Once my things were packed up, I nodded to them both, ready to head back. I looked at both of them, then one final look over Arkash. Part of me wanted to read him, to see what exactly happened, but that could wait till later. It didnt dawn on me till now that I still had a body to dispose of back at my place. The thought made me chuckle a bit. "Dont worry I promise I wont break your pockets"

I guess I was happy I was able to help, plus this one would be perfect to study. I didnt get many Rathari patients so he would be perfect to study, I knew as much. Despite how this may have started I was glad I could help, meeting quite the interesting pair, as Im sure I would be seeing them more that was for sure.
