Synopsis

Hello! I would like to request permission to write out a mod-approved Blood Magic acquisition plot in Ash, 120. This is likely to occur around the middle of Ash. Below are the details of the intended plot:

Supposedly, learning of the seriousness of the Dranoch threat in Atinaw, Aldrin sends the Black Revenant Vendrael to reinforce the Atinorin cell of the Remedy. This is especially good news to Taelian, who at this point is the only surviving member of that cell... and, who was mentored by Vendrael for much of his life. As revealed previously in Taelian's story, after being orphaned it was Vendrael who took him off the streets, only to place him into the Black Remedy. Shortly thereafter, some of the early Famished-production trials were attempted on Taelian, as well as many other orphans and general societal outcasts. Despite this almost betrayal, the two developed a strong relationship throughout their lives, with Vendrael becoming something of a father figure for Taelian. He became his mentor in combat and Sigilic Pyromancy, and was the leader of Taelian's group for missions and patrol around the Elainian Darklands.

When Taelian left Sil-Elaine to fulfill their international agenda, he did so leaving Vendrael behind. Upon seeing him again, the two reunite and share stories of what has transpired since they've last seen one another. Vendrael informs Taelian of a total stalemate in the revolution, and Taelian informs Vendrael of the ongoings with Helena Flowers of the Westweald Trading Company, and how the Dranoch have gripped Atinaw's western coast. The two then proceed to perform a reconnaissance mission together.

After the events of this mission, Vendrael asks Taelian to explore the Dead Realm with him. He tells Taelian of his theories as to how it works, and also of the mysteries it bears. Finally he informs Taelian that he has been looking for a way to cure the Famished, and regrets what he did to him as a youth, and so many others. After their brief exploration into the Dead Realm, with few answers to be found, the man surrenders his hope of discovering a cure and tearfully passes the torch of that job to Taelian himself.

Not long after, Vendrael wounds himself grievously as a result of his guilt and shame. Guilt for helping to create the Famished, and shame for what has happened since the two last met -- revealing details to Taelian not told before. Vendrael informs Taelian that he was expelled from the Black Remedy for trying to find a cure for the Famished in Sil-Elaine, even going as far as to beseech Aldrin to stop proliferating the Black Sigil to the unwilling. Not only did the Jailor refuse, he banished Vendrael. Seeing this as a betrayal of the man he believed Aldrin to be, Vendrael began to question his reality and purpose, and sought out Taelian only so that he could apologize before taking his own life.

At the end, Vendrael beseeches Taelian to take on the mantle of the Blood Mage. He believes himself to be the Remedy's last Blood Mage, and wants for Taelian to use the darkly power to fulfill the goals of the revolution. Given the gravity of his request, Taelian accepts the Black Revenant's gift, and acquires the Rune - though with fearful reluctance.

Hello!

I will be assisting you with your plot application today. Here are a few questions to get things kicked off!

1. Are there any previous plots/threads which have lead up to Taelian going down this path? If so please link them here. Given Taelian's expansive thread history please limit the links to 4-5 that directly feed into this plot for our records.

2. The assumption here is that this plot will be undertaken in solos, however, is there any chance that this plot will involve other players or possibly require Mod intervention?

3. Do the NPC's mentioned or implied in this request already have write ups, or will you be generating those as the plot progresses? If the NPC's already have write ups please link them here.

Let me know if there are questions!

Question your Reality,
Mirage

Hello! Thanks for replying to my ticket. :)

1. Not so many -- this is meant to be sort of a surprise to Taelian where he feels pressured and confused by the proposition. However, this thread series from quite a while ago is the primary one in which his relationship with Vendrael is explored.

2. It is possible, but unlikely. This is a plot that is well suited to it just being Taelian and Vendrael, because it's the end of such an important relationship. For that reason I think the plot would be better served if it were kept between the two of them; there's more room for emotion and honesty.

3. Vendrael does not have a write-up. I could write him up though, if you want for me to. He will be dying at the end of the plot and won't be doing much, but again -- up to you. I can!

Alright I see no issues here! The background threads you provided work fine, and be sure to contact the local Mod over the region this plot is happening in just in case the events of these plots have an affect on any of the surrounding towns or territories. Given how central to the plot Vendrael is I would like for him to be given a write up, even if it only includes a detailed biography and skill list showing he does, in fact, know blood magic. You can post the write up in this thread.

Once you do so I am comfortable approving this plot and I will update your Character Secrets thread accordingly. Good luck!

Description: Vendrael was born in Morian in the Fifth Age, near the decline of the Sundering's apex; before many of the scars and negative effects it had left upon the world began to recede. As such, he was born in a Sil-Elaine even more bleak and corrupted than now, and to a mother and father who had endured many of its worst moments. Vendrael's grandmother, who had witnessed the Sundering firsthand, would tell him the tales of its horrors -- but also what life was like before. Back when the Elven Gods roamed freely and were loved, and the Siltori were wealthy, filled with health and life, and with bountiful opportunity. When the land was not corrupted, but instead known to be among the world's most beautiful of realms; filled with crystalline waters and stunning trees, with cleaner and clearer air.

These stories of what life was like before -- and what life could be like now -- stuck with Vendrael for his entire life. He spent many years journeying throughout Sil-Elaine to search for its lost glories, and untold legends. He realized that few of them remained, and what did was in ruins; the land had been struck hard not only by the Sundering, but a deliberate attempt by the Dranoch to clear it of its history, and its people with a sense of purpose and understanding. A cultural sabotage had taken place not only by the Clockwork humans before them -- but even their own rulers, who were supposedly one among them. Vendrael began to truly understand the distinction between Dranoch and non: that the Dranoch sought only to maintain their supremacy. That it was all a lie; that the stability they brought was false. That the only reason they even allowed their underlings to live was either to turn them -- often due to their own coercive desires -- or to devour them. He acknowledged this most when his grandmother, an elderly woman he dearly loved, was consumed rather than being allowed to go peaceably into death.

But Vendrael did not live during a time where there was any method of fighting back. He moved to Silfanore and attempted to live his life scornfully without any hope for change. Unlike Aldrin, he was a mundane man. It was only when the Jailor struck through the heart of Courtier Dalen, one of the first Huntsmen of his kind, that men within the masses -- such as Vendrael -- sought him out, and with him, sought change. He found Aldrin as he fled and joined him, helping the man and his small band of allies to take root within an old wonder he had once explored; the Citadel Gallows. There, Vendrael and Aldrin - as well as many others - helped to forge the Black Remedy and create its identity. They made it the revolution it is today.

But not every story keeps its tune, and not every tale remains heroic for long. Within the Remedy's framework, cracks have formed over time. And Vendrael, and his loyalties, have come into question...

Note: As one of the highest ranking members of the Black Remedy, Vendrael is quite a powerful NPC. He will not be used outside of the boundaries of this plot in Taelian's service or assistance.

Everything is in order and you are approved to begin your plot! Your Character Secrets thread has been updated as well. Be sure to label your threads either in the title or first post as being a part of this specific plot. Also include the note that the thread is a part of an overarching approved plot when submitting for thread reviews. Beyond that just be sure to track the progression in your CS.

This post serves as the final word of approval for Taelian's obtaining Blood Magic. No further requests of approval are required save for those which affect larger areas or other players, for which you will seek approval from your local mod. Please refer future inquiries here and to your character secrets thread as needed.

Question your Reality,
Mirage
