The Horror of Ciseperant
All that must be done for the act of war is by necessity. Jingoistic rhetoric has charged Jean with the need to adapt and overcome at any cost, his own personal struggles magnified. Every failure is crippling in his world, and he must not show weakness. The creativity born of this need is often as rough and repulsive as it is divine beneath the gaze of Ulen's majesty. Jean pulls roughly at his magic, resulting in Quirks that derail the integrity of his Templates for use in eking out an edge from the rampant self destruction he imposes through study.
Apprentice - Haste of Ambition
Jean developed so quickly through this stage that he was unable to derive an Apprentice mutation.
Journeyman - Fundamentally Broken
► Show Spoiler
One of Jean's templates become 'broken' through his Malformic adaptations. Breaking the concept renders its body more malleable upon the outer fringes; glossy, primordial black ink oozes from and suffuses both internal and external anatomies. This sludge is odorless, though it carries a subtly sweet taste, and the pure black color coupled with his Pyromancy leaves it perpetually sweltering or even scalding if exposed to flame. It does not dribble from him unless the surface tension is broken by strikes to his body, seemingly crawling towards him when he is nearby as it holds a connection to his form. Ooze which is deliberately allowed to fall from him will not have this trait unless he actively wills it. Whenever he derives facets from this form utilizing his abilities, they will be coated in this thick, viscous slime. The aesthetics of the broken Template are forever polluted, and should that Template be banished then another will be selected.
The true benefit of this mutation is that it hides his scent and allows him an ease of moving about in the darkness. This confers very little in the way of a combat advantage, though the layer of inch deep ooze makes it easier for blows to glance off of him, and it cushions the blow of objects with large surface areas. Barely any light will reflect off of this form, leaving him to appear as a shadow moving through the world, but the glossy smoothness can yield illumination beneath torchlight. The sludge is sticky, painting whatever it touches in a nigh permanent black. So long as he does not expend or bleed considerable amounts of this ooze, the cost to his rate of Ether recovery is minimal.

A life spent in toil of the Candor saw to it that Jean develop a way to shield himself from the social persecution of nobility. It may have been that Ulen's divinity was represented beneath fur and scale, but that only helped in part. He began to use his Devolution to return back to his body near-exclusively. His desire to have clothing led to experimentation, and that experimentation saw results.
When Jean Molds or otherwise abandons his Elven form, he locks what he was wearing to his Devolution. When he then Devolves back into a Sil'Norai, his clothes appear about him once more. This Quirk has locked his Devolution to that original form, harshly penalizing its utilities and freedoms. No matter what form he takes, he may only ever Devolve into his original form.
The clothing and armor bound to Devolution will sink into him, and for this to happen they must be made from materials that are biological in nature. Anything metal will be ripped and torn from the outfit as he shifts, including buckles and buttons, or metal weaponry, even metal gilding aside from dye.
