Semblance Quirks

Semblance Theme - Apocryphant

Aeraku has used his Semblance to suss out the little details and nuances of magic and objects the world over. His Semblance is about uncovering truths and mysteries and not the squabbles of mages or petty politicking. To that end, his Quirks tend to focus on giving him an edge when it comes to reading structural, magical, or historical details at the cost of hindering or abolishing his abilities to read interpersonal information like focus or emotions.

Apprentice - Secrets of the Deep
No longer do mundane materials defeat Aeraku’s perceptions. For the purposes of reading the Structural and Magical aspects of auras, Aeraku will find his ability to read auras unhindered by solid walls nor hard packed earth and stone. The cost is steep for this ability, as he may no longer discern the emotions of others.

"For the purposes of reading the Structural and Magical aspects of auras, Aeraku will find his ability to read auras unhindered by solid walls nor hard-packed earth and stone."

Would you mind clarifying this sentence here? What exactly is the extent and limitations of this ability?

Any mundane materials no longer hinder his aura readings when attempting to do so through them. This allows him to read at whatever his maximum distance is for his level, through walls or several feet of solid rock if necessary. Magical warding, etc. will still disrupt his viewing attempts, and he can still be fooled by alteration and so on. Uses for this might include divining beneath the ground for Dragonshards or finding hidden passageways that haven't been warded from prying Semblance users.

Alright, I understand. At its base level, I see no issue with seeing Auras through obstacles, but the drawbacks will need to be increased. Auras can be perceived through physical barriers, but only up to 6 feet. In addition, this ability would only allow Aeraku to detect that something is present, but would not grant him any true insight into what the object is or any details of its properties. Think of it like being nearsighted when the aura is concerned. You can see a blurry outline of something, but can't tell anything about it until you dig it out or remove the barrier. The quirk would be exceptionally taxing as well, meaning when he attempts to see through barriers he can only do so for a fraction of the time he would normally be able to view an aura unobstructed.

He would not be able to see through wards made from negation, or armor and constructs forged by runeforging. This, obviously, would also apply to creatures that are magical in nature and items fashioned from their flesh via magical means as well. This includes some of the more powerful monsters, spirits, and Gods (i.e. if a mistlord comes and stands between Aeraku and his favorite dragonshard he won't be able to see the dragonshard).

If Aeraku's goal is to focus on using this magic for the study of objects or artifacts I could see this quirk evolving to specialize so that only nonliving creatures possess readable auras to him. That is something to keep in mind as you develop this quirk series further.

If this is the route you would like to go please feel free to go ahead and make these updates to the quirk and respond to the thread when you are finished ^.^
