THE VOIDWOKEN
INTRODUCTION
Salen’s Mark of Nightfall was birthed from outright spite against a slave. Salen carries an immense burden on his soul because of such a cruel and vile act that was initiated against him, knowing his mark was bared upon him with the ill intent of pacifying his magical abilities. Because of this, his mark will enact a taste for vengeance, eventually splitting from his original form and becoming a monstrosity. Figments of his Umbraplasm and his body will begin to change as he becomes one with the night, unleashing a great terror that is driven by vengeance and spite, but also the desire to protect other's freedom.
Mark Location: Salen’s Mark of Nightfall is located on his abdomen, underneath his sternum.
MUTATIONS
Void’s Secretion - Apprentice
Salen’s Umbraplasm begins to mutate into a tool for use; it becomes a viscous sticky line of silken strands, similar to spider silk. The properties of this Umbraplasm are quite sticky, although its strength will develop as Salen progresses into Nightfall, resulting in his Umbraplasm becoming a snare to immobilize his foes, as well as providing a strong and elastic cord for escaping falls or suspending himself to higher places. Salen may also find that this kind of Umbraplasm wielded is also a curse as it is very hard to form up, which may result in Salen becoming stuck or immobilised if used incorrectly. Any hydrogenic contact with the Umbraplasm will deactivate the sticky residue that binds his foes.
Void’s Snare - Journeyman
Darkness becomes a tool of the trade that influences the level in Salen’s abilities, but has been brought into focus when Volley is introduced as an ability. When Salen chooses to cast Volley, any victims of this attack will begin to feel an entangling presence around their body, as if the Umbraplasm is cocooning them from the outside; so it is true, the Umbraplasm will begin to wrap around the victim like an python, until eventually squeezing or suffocating the victim as it begins to circulate around the contours of the body, until the victim is nothing more than a cocoon, harrowingly screaming for their last breath of life.
The Umbraplasm cocoon can be broken and damaged by blunt force with their strength determined by the mage's ether reserves, However, upon creating this effect, Salen will be slowed by the gravitational pull of this ability, decreasing his movement alacrity and mobility.
Void’s Weave - Expert
Salen’s increased overstepping in all of his magic, including Remnant and Mentalism has led him battling with a condition known as Magithermal Etherothosis, a rare condition brought on by the constant overstepping where the body begins to become sensitive to the filtering process of Ether. Salen will feel constant pain as he expels Ether from the date that this mutation is given to him, that he must choose to ride through or succumb to it which may affect or compromise other magical abilities.
Salen will begin to feel the violent protusions of Umbraplasm radiating from his skin. The pain is a past product of Early Stage Mageblight that has begun rifing through his system and yet mutated his cells with Umbraplasmic traits. From his back, he will grow eight sharp arachnoid spinnerets which extend up to nine feet long. These will become weavers for Umbraplasmic residue, meaning that Salen can now engulf his chosen victims in Umbraplasm, using Devise at a much more faster rate.
The drawback of this mutation is that Salen's body will start shifting in forms of gravity. Salen's constant overstepping in Nightfall, increasing his body mass and density until gravity eventually pins him in a state of paralysis, unable to move because of the heaviness drawn to his body.
Dark Ambition - Master
Salen’s Aura changes as if he becomes one with gravity; he undergoes cosmetic changes to his skin, including changes in his skin as it becomes an reflective service for light photons, radiating a blue light from his aura as well as changes in his eye color, as if looking straight at darkened eclipse-like irises. It is evident that some would argue this phenomenon experienced by Salen is the beginning of a birth of a Stygian, whilst others would scientifically classify this as an arcane mutation.
Salen's aversion to power will imbue his mind with the feeling of strong leadership, unwilling to be quelled by the forces associated from power structures, hierarchies and slavers. The heaviness of this burden will be carried upon his soul as a virulent seed has been planted into his Mark of Control, due to the malicious intent of the initiator. Because of this, Salen's strong willpower will be focused on imbuing himself with the concept of freedom. If Salen chooses to commit an act of oppressive boundaries against a target who has dealt no malice or form of slavery to anyone, Salen will be punished through the true historical intentions of the mark, originally granted to slaves by Tenebrax and used by an order which persecutes the act of freedom.
The first stage will become defined by his own shadow, a lesser form of Umbralysis will begin to form under him if Salen commits an oppressive act against someone who has endured oppression, the second stage involves Salen giving into overstepping if he gives into oppression or devalues the freedom of others with Nightfall. This appears to be a warning to Salen, knowing his future is now to protect the freedom of those and others, even if it is a dogmatic or unflinching ideology. Due to the development of this mutation and the mark's true nature, Salen can now grant Shepherd to his allies, but only three allies may benefit from it at a time, by doing this selfless act, he will no longer be able to use Shepherd on himself until the effects are dispelled from his allies.
