Once she was calmed down, Bea opened her eyes, getting back to the mission at hand. She slipped out from behind the door, leaving it opened now, and she moved around to the opposite wall. From her vantage, she peered down the dark hall toward the steps the woman had disappeared down. She then huddled in close to the door jam, and knelt down low, getting her head near to the floor, then gently leaned out, peering down the opposite end of the hall. Several more doors, some opened, some closed, and a large, lit candelabra resting on a table before a window. It was an easy mapping of the upper floor of the house it seemed. There were two doors off to her left, one on each side of the hall. The one next to her contained the dog, and was thankfully closed. There was another door directly across from hers, and four down to her right, two on either side.
She stood up, slipped the dog toy into the waist of her pants, cinched by a rope belt. She then gently stepped out into the hall, heading down toward her right. She skipped past the first door on her right that was closed, finding the next room on the right that was open, slipping in, her way illuminated by the candelabra that was now behind her. She quickly took in the surroundings, seeing that no one was in here. It was a bathroom of some sort, tiled flooring, curtained windows, a large wash tub in the middle of the room. She sighed. This wasn't the type of room she was hoping for, but she proceeded to start her search anyways. She gently moved the door to partially obscure the majority of the room, without fully closing it.
Bea moved over to a small counter there, finding small bars of soaps. She picked them up, sniffing at them, finding them to contain some sort of fragrances. Those could certainly be sold to anyone with a bit more extra coin to spend, and they were small enough. She opened the doors of the counter, finding a few more in there, snatching those too. She moved over to a large wardrobe opening it up, wincing at the loud creaking sounds of the doors. Peering inside, she sighed. Towels and what looked to be bedding. All of those would be useful things back home for sure, but took up too much space to bother stealing. Still, she reached out, rubbing her hand over the soft linens, trying to imagine what it would be like to lay in a bed with those. It surely must be divine.
The rest of the room was pretty barren, outside of a sink on the opposite wall, with that weird chair people would use to relieve themselves. She'd only ever seen that in the homes they raided, they didn't have toilets where she lived. She moved toward the door to pick another room, when she heard footsteps coming. They were already so close! Bea moved quickly, skirting around the wash tub, ducking down behind it, staying crouched. And as the steps entered the room, she held her breath, a hand covering her nose and mouth to attempt to muffle any noise she might leak out. Her heart was racing and pounding in her ears, her body beginning to perspire as the anxiety raced through her. The room was dimly lit by a hand held candle. "Fuckin' raiders, got my guts flaring up in worry." The voice was feminine but hoarse, likely the one that was yelling earlier.
Bea listened as close as she could, her body coiled like a spring, ready to make a break for it if she were discovered. She heard the rustling of clothes, followed by some terribly unholy splashing sounds into the toilet that no person should ever have to hear from another person. It was accompanied by an absolutely horrid smell and grunts and groans. Bea pinched her nose, trying to not react to the toxic fumes that were pervading the air around her, burning at her eyes. Eventually the noises stopped, and the woman walked out of the bathroom, and back down the hall.
Bea was quick to move to the door, peering down to see the older woman disappearing down the steps, as she moved out in the hall, letting out a quiet gasp for fresh air. She blew out a single candle on the candelabra just to smell anything other than that horror. She took deep whiffs of the smoke, trying to clear her system. Once she was normalised, she reached out, gently taking hold of the door knob, easing it open. She stayed there in the doorway as she swung it inward, letting the light pour in, ready to run, just in case anyone was in here. But there wasn't, and a soft smile grew on her lips.
She'd found the big bedroom.
