Salen was back in Boghadar to see an old friend, although it appeared that things were different. It felt as if he was missing a piece inside of him, like his loving Tiberius. He figured he could sneak into Degare's old house and surprise him with a visit, and perhaps some help. He had alot on his mind, wondering who had murdered his lover, Tiberius.

He wished he could've made the decision to leave Daravin and go somewhere else, but he was far too deep in a war of his own making. He sighed as he remained perched upon the rooftops, letting the beautiful moonlight dazzle his skin in hues of blue and silver. He channelled his ether to create a Compass, before moving the black mass behind him, forming it into something. A black, dusky cloud would form behind him as if they had taken the form of wings. This was the form of his Shepherd, an umbraplasmic mass designed for Nightfallen to fly.

He narrowed his eyes as he watched from the rooftops, seeing the peak of Degare's tower. He leaped from the highest point of the rooftops and swan dived, as he reached barely touching the floor, he then controlled his Shepherd to take flight, passing others at regulatative speed. The vanishing umbraplasm could be seen as a dark cloud of smoke in the distance. He had taken flight, but never felt so free in his life and yet it wasn't perfect. Salen would wobble everytime, knowing that he wasn't exactly in control of his own momentum; the clumsy shaking back and forth and trying to balance his body against the currents meant that there was practice achieving.

He flew his way towards the tower of Degare's room, before clumsily latching himself onto the window, crawling through the tight crevice knowing himself that it wasn't the smoothest flying session he had, perhaps there was room for greater improvement. His Shepherd dissipated fully and yet he was looking around to what appeared to be an empty room "Degare?" He asked as he took a step forth through his bedroom to find empty pages and the findings of a new Veir house here.

House Syngari.

"Fuck... Dahlia must have gotten hold of you too..." He frowned only to be haunted by the thoughts of his lost lover yet again. It was perhaps an incredibly lonely time for him, even if Corvo were deemed to be selfish, they still were human. They had emotions, just as everyone has desires. Except he didn't know what he wanted anymore, other than two things.

Justice and Revenge.

Vivian was curled up in his new bed. He still was not used to this new place. He didn’t particularly like it. Bara didn’t have as much room to run around. There wasn’t a big lawn like at the Amoren house. Unfortunately as a ward of this new Veir, he had very little choice in what happened to him or where he was placed. His things were now in a slightly larger room, with his cosmetology tools set up along the wall and his books on a proper shelf. He even had a small, cheap chest to keep his clothing now.

Vivian slept soundly; he was used to the streets and not a reliable bed. Anything was softer than cobblestones, even this humble bed that squeaked too loud for the other servants and was at least ten years past a good trip to the junk pile. To Vivian, it was a cloud. He didn’t have any bedclothes, never really seeing the point of such a thing, but he did have blankets. However, what could rouse Vivian from a damned deep sleep was the sense that someone was in his space or threatening his things. Call it a streetwalker’s intuition, but he had always been keenly aware of anyone near spaces he considered private.

Like a bedroom.

Vivian heard the whispered name and shot up out of bed. He didn’t think. All he needed was the few seconds of motion to determine that no, that wasn’t Alistair or anyone he knew but was calling the name of his dead master. He was still suffering from a bit of mageblight, but this was survival. He at least would count on body horror to surprise the other.

Vivian crouched on all fours facing the intruder, and changed. His limbs cracked and deformed, becoming sturdier and longer. His hands melted away save for his middle fingers, which grew and sprouted into hooves. His hair disappeared entirely with his skull, melting into a fleshy hammerhead shape distinctive of the worm. A muscular tail formed behind him, and he filled out with muscle. Mucus coated his skin. He looked a bit like a formation between three animals; the mule made up the majority of the body, with four legs and an arched neck. The hammerhead worm contributed the unusual head shape, slimy skin and tail, and small areas of armament around his tiny eyes, shoulders and hip were the flea’s contributions.

Vivian snarled, a low and gutteral noise, and stamped a hoof. He knew this form well; the Consumer as he called it, since it’s expanding throat and stomach from the worm could easily swallow a man whole.

Vivian didn’t attack, but rather stood protecting the rest of the room.

Salen's eyes widened as he saw the shambling horror of the hammerhead worm in front of him, already his flight or fight response had triggered as he had never seen anything like it "Erm..." He shuddered, not knowing how to respond to such a thing, other than projecting a phantasmal wall to protect himself from the creature "Now now... Steady..." He wondered what a creature like this was doing in Degare's home "We can settle this like adults by talking about our problems or... Well, a series of unfortunate events may happen." He suggested with a shrug as he chuckled nervously.

How was a Remnomancer suppose to fight a creature like that? By throwing unicorns at him? What a joke. He had to think of a plan, a strategy to either calm the beast or flee from the crime scene. It wasn't like he could do that already, but the fear froze him in place, perhaps it was a fear that the mage was an Entente who had a specialisation in Malformity? How would he had known with the form he was in? He spoke and chuckled nervously "I'd rather do this the peaceful way..." He said trying to hold the wall "If you know of the owner of this house, or previous owner should I say... He promised something... Information." He said with a wince as he held the wall in defense, away from the creature. Was his persuasion going to win him any favors, or was he going to deal with an angry monster.

"I'm not going to hurt you, but if you try to hurt me you'll force my hand." He took a deep breath, sighing as he could see the creature didn't have eyes, no senses to beguile or calm it down. If anything, Salen needed to remain calm and keep the wall up. The wisest thing anyone in this situation could do.

Pray and don't die.

Ah. Ether. He was dealing with another mage. Vivian stamped a foot again. He wasn’t small at this size; Bara was at least eighteen hands if he was an inch, and so was the consumer. The creature, much like it’s worm counterpart, was always hungry. It could smell meat in front of it, and Vivian was tempted to indulge it. A thief was never welcome, much less one that didn’t even attempt to be subtle about the affair. No, he wasn’t at all inclined to let this one go. Especially not with the resources that Salen promised.

The logical part of his brain told him to settle. He didn’t want to start a fight with a mage he wasn’t sure of the capabilities of. He was a strong mage, but he could never underestimate another. Besides, he already told him he wanted to be peaceful. Perhaps the form had made enough of an impression on the intruder. He huffed loudly. Well, the man knew he could turn into this and he wasn’t about to start a fight with him right off wasn’t he? If he showed signs of trying to steal, Vivian would just eat him.

He slowly released the form. The skin dried, he shrank down, and a skull sprouted on the end of his neck bones. As Salen watched, Vivian would slowly come into view. His eyes popped out and into his sockets, lips and teeth formed, hooves shrank back into his hands. Vivian blinked, shaking off the last angry, hungry thoughts of the worm. “What in the hell are you doing in my bedroom? How did you know Degare Socorro?” He demanded.

The creature he was dealing with was a Malformity mage, using Chimerism. He had never come across another mage like them, except for maybe a few of the Entente, who kept their forms as clean as possible. As he watched, he realised that the male had resembled some sort of familiarity from years ago, the thoughts of Tiberius would cloud his mind once more, realising that this was the prostitute that they met some time ago in the Amoren streets. "Wait... We've met before..." He said with a shudder of fear. He didn't want him to transform into that god-forsaken creature from Bel's wastes once again.

It was clear that the mage was mindful of intruders and he had every right to be, especially with the amount of Entente who would snoop around just to get information, Salen knew if he made any false mood, he would be gone inside that gullet in a matter of seconds, digested to a pulp, so he remained cooperative. He seemed annoyed at the notion of Degare disappearing like that, Was he caught and exposed for being a blood mage, or did he know that one day this day would come, hoping that Salen would ask for another favor from him. After all, he needed a favor and if he wasn't going to get it from Degare, he needed to find someone else.

"Degare? Well lets just say I saved his life once and all of a sudden, he runs off like a coward and hides behind my back?" He tutted for a moment, looking around as he remained behind the wall to protect himself "How did you end up in this, are you the owner of this place now? Oh, did you finally make it from your rags and secure riches successfully?" He said with a chuckle as he appeared to be unamused, not because of Vivian's status, but because of the notion that he may have been double crossed.

"Fuck the Entente and their god with a scotched stick up his ass, go fucking plow yourself, Ulen..." He ranted blasphemous tones openly.

Vivian folded his arms across his chest. Here he was, naked, in the middle of his room with some moron talking at him. He glared. "Degare only saved you because he wanted something from you in return. He didn't save people because he liked them or out of the goodness of his heart. He only saved me because he didn't have my Mark." Vivian said coldly. "Now would you care to explain why you felt you had to burst into my bedroom in the middle of the night instead of making an appointment like a normal person? If Degare was even alive, you'd have had a fifty fifty shot he'd have either killed you or fucked you. Unless that was what you were looking for."

He sighed and leaned down, grabbing his shirt from the floor and pulling it over his head. It was long enough that the tails satisfied decency, though his belly was beginning to push out the buttons a bit far. Vivian rubbed the back of his neck. He had a hard time sleeping as it was. He didn't have the space or time to entertain people in the middle of the night. "What do you mean 'secure riches'?" he asked suspiciously. "I don't know who you are. For all you know I've been in this tower for years honing magic." Vivian bristled. Who was this stranger?

"Oh, so he's a man who tries to take what he is? He seemed rather charming the first time I met him, rather tragic to think he would be a wolf in sheep's clothing, but yet isn't everyone here..." He spoke coldly as he stared at the other male already seemingly pissed by the revelation that he had disappeared from the face of the earth, perhaps fled Daravin as a fugitive? Who knew that Salen would be in this situation, when he needed help the only one who would help him ascend his bloodline now completely gone? He huffed in defeat as he seemingly needed to come up with another plan. How was he going to get the backing of ascending his bloodline now? A word from Hugo wasn't going to be enough to dedicate his status, but he needed some form of evidence.

Vivian spoke of Degare rather coldly, which forced Salen to frown for a moment, if anything he was particularly empathetic towards people of his own stature, particularly serfs and commoners. He hated Entente, despised them to the brim, knowing that all they did was take most of his life away. Now he wanted blood, he wanted revenge. A dish that was best served cold. "Did he hurt you?" He asked as he narrowed his eyes as he stared into Vivian's once more, figuring that he could extract information from him through Beguiler. Once eye contact was initiated, he spoke of his demand "Tell me, did he hurt you? Did he make your life hell because you didn't fulfill his satisfaction? If he did, he's a dead man... He will not walk the face of this earth, knowing what I have in store for him if he steps foot on Daravin's soil, Bane mage or not..." He spoke coldly.

As he changed the subject of the conversation, he tilted his head in thought. He swore he could remember the male from somewhere, unless the dosage of drugs including Luxuria, Purgatory and Aminos. They were all heavy substances, which Salen didn't dabble much in. He was a cautious drug taker, perhaps paranoid due to his past. He shrugged it off and sighed "Nevermind, you probably don't remember... It was... A fun time." Salen chuckled, wriggling his eyebrows twice, wondering if he could jog his memory.

“Charming?” Vivian repeated incredulously. Degare was a lot of things…had been a lot of things. Attractive, powerful, but he was like seeing a big wolf outside of your home. You sure as hell didn’t want to antagonize it but it was nice looking from a safe distance. However, gliding amongst the Entente meant Degare would have had to pick up some of their predatory charm somewhere. He supposed. He eyeballed the other mage, and grabbed his pants. He tugged them up over his hips, begrudgingly letting go of the last tendrils of sleep. He wasn’t going back to bed anytime soon was he!

Vivian looked up, and into Salen’s eyes. Strangely, the questioning took an odd turn. He tensed, searching Salen’s eyes. He didn’t see any maliciousness there…he for some reason felt like he could open up a bit. “Degare did hurt me.” He said icily. “He wanted the mark on my spine, and I told him I would give it to him if he taught me magic. That was all he cared about. Power. But he’s dead now, so you don’t have to worry about threatening a dead man.”

The Malformist glared at Salen. A fun time? So he was a former client. “You paid me to sleep with you. That’s about as fun as it gets for me. You know. Eating.” Vivian growled, and sat back on his bed. “Degare is dead and whatever you needed is now out of your reach. What do you want with me?”

He had realised that temporary illusion wall had disappated, protecting him from the male's grasp, just incase he would turn into that worm thing again. The other male made uncomfortable as he made a move naked across the bedroom, taking a pair of pants, but yet he seemed calm. His eyes looking at him with no particular malice, other than being shaded with the memory of the man whom he shared Vivian with. The fact that they would get high on drugs together whilst gaining mischief would be rather problematic for Salen in the long run. It would hit him eventually, knowing that he had to keep himself in check and remain calm, despite feeling the need to lament for his previous lover.

He wanted answers and it seemed like he wasn't getting much. Degare had betrayed him, just as he betrayed others, perhaps his discovery as a blood mage was the ultimate price payed for his lack of empathy, compassion and greed for power "He must've got caught for being a Vandikar... The poisonous filth of society, it was no wonder he was unkind, power hungry." He responded to Vivian as he sighed, wondering around the place. He wondered if the basement has some kind of clue. Who knows if the new tenants have taken a visit there.

"Yeah, for fun... And well the streets are dangerous." He said with a shrug "The least I could do to get you off there." Salen added a chivalrous cause to his word, knowing it was secretly out of his own pure selfish desire, it was better to come across as a hero, even if there was an ounce of insincerity within Salen's wits and words.

There was some ounce of truth however...

"Well, Degare must've left something... That's why I'm here, I don't know if he's left a clue or some sort of hint that he knew... All I have his knowledge and it's no good, noone's going to believe me if I have no concrete evidence... Unless." He shook his head as he appeared to be stressed out about the whole situation, knowing he could be at a mercy of an Entente if he was found out to be a heretic. He needed something to overwrite that suspicion.

A title.

"It's hopeless... No matter how hard I try I'm just always going to be in this vicious cycle..." He frowned, sitting down on the bed with his head in his hands. It was as if he was about to break down again.

Vivian shrugged. "I don't know why he's dead. I just know it caught up with him." he said dismissively, but gave Salen an incensed look at his next words. "Get me off the street?" He repeated. "You did not just say that to me. You paid me, we fucked, and I left in the morning. You didn't save me from one good god damn thing and let's get that clear from the off. You and I are not friends. We aren't acquaintances. I was your toy for a night and that is it. Don't you dare act like you gave me one more thought. Understand me?"

The Malformist watched with an air of unamused surprise as Salen wandered right over to his bed and parked himself. He clenched his teeth. Salen's problems were not his, and if Degare had left a mess with his death...well, all he could advise Salen to do was join the club. He folded his arms across his bare chest, glaring at him. He really wasn't getting the message was he?

"Degare's things have been sold off, burned, or repurposed. You're not going to find a damn thing here. If you're hoping for some secret hiding spot, or some little room they haven't touched...everything that could have been sold to cover his debts was. All paperwork, as far as I know, was destroyed. The evidence you're looking for isn't here." Vivian said archly. "Why would Degare leave you anything? Degare didn't care about me, or you. All he cared about was himself, and perhaps the man he was in love with. Everyone else could die off."

Vivian stood in front of Salen. "Get off my damn...oh...fuck it. Move over." He grumpily crawled beside Salen and flopped down on his side, yanking the covers up over his shoulder. He sighed, yanking the pillow out from under Salen's rear and under his head. "Veirs don't care about anyone else. You're not the only one he fucked over."
