45th of Glade
Vivian was loving this. He was clean. He was happy. His life had always been in the slums, punctuated by dirt and filth. He was a survivor, someone who lived by his wits and determination, and had ignored his magic for the few years he’d had it until recently. With his allegiance to Veir Socorro, he had secured a solid place to sleep. He had his own servant’s rooms in the Veir’s household, was fucking the Veir, and his magic was progressing rapidly. All it had taken was breaking into the right pantry, and having a rare magical mark that had saved his life. He had little doubt Degare would have enjoyed flaying him alive otherwise. Now, he was hoping he was gaining some of the Veir’s trust.
Breaking the toilet on day one hadn’t been a good first impression.
He was also finding that with his new elevated station, he was allowed to go into areas of the city previously thought off limits. He’d tried when he was a street urchin, bathing in gutter water and eating out of the garbage, but was swiftly identified by the local guards and removed. It hadn’t helped that someone could smell him from a block away. Even sleeping with the guards hadn’t helped.
Vivian smirked into his drink. The bar was hopelessly high class, even for him. He was pushing his luck in his shabby clothes no matter how clean he was. He was wearing his best makeup; blue eyeshadow tinged in purple around the corners of his eyes, and heavy dark eyeliner. The ratty fur lining of his coat was clean even if some of the dog fur was poking through the threadbare linen and the cowl was cockeyed. His boots were clean but worn, cast offs from the servants at the Veir’s household, and he wore worn trousers but no shirt.
He was getting weird looks and he knew it, but he was confidently sipping his lemon vodka and not bothering a soul, so it seemed the patrons and staff were a bit confused as to what to do with him. He wasn’t being noisy or disruptive and had the coin to purchase his drink…well, the man next to him had the coin to purchase Vivian’s drink. Vivian had just batted his eyes and heavily implied sexual favors in the bathroom.
Apparently, some nobles found being that bold charming.
