Father.

That word was always spat in disgust in hallways and the kitchen. Vivian had heard it said a thousand ways from the time he was learning how to speak, and not a single woman had spoke favorably. At times, it was a curse, a slur, some mythical being they all hated. Vivian’s own mother had only snarled the word when Vivian had done something she hated. He was curious because of his father. His elegance, his eyes, his hair, everything because of his father. Spoken in the same way people spoke of witches or demons.

Vivian’s father had been Entente, he knew. It was the only reason his mother hadn’t strangled him in the crib. She had sent letters, demanding payment, to take Vivian and make something of him. Anything to prevent her being saddled with a useless bastard. Vivian’s father had only responded in silence until the day he’d had her killed. At times Vivian thought his story would end the same way; Alistair ignoring his letters until he became annoyed with the thorn in his foot.

As Alistair held Laurent, Vivian watched them quietly. It was already different. Alistair wanted to be here. He wanted his son. He held him so delicately. Vivian slowly, unconsciously relaxed. Who knew he would have reunited them here, with Degare’s ghost roaming the halls? They had come so far.

What do you want from me?

The question was asked innocently enough. Vivian reached out and settled his hand on Alistair’s knee. “I want you to be a father to your son. Teach him how to be a man, how to be a noble. I want you to be a partner to me.” He said softly. “I have spent the last year pining for you, hating you, missing you. I don’t want to feel that way anymore. I don’t want to be alone. I want to give you the three children you told me you wanted, running through sunlit halls in Grisic. I want to feel the way I did when we made him; safe, and loved.”

Vivian stroked his fingers over Alistair’s knee, savoring the contact. He had missed him so dearly. It didn’t feel real now that he could touch him again.

He took a deep breath, and looked Alistair in the eyes. “I want to take this house from the ghosts that inhabit it. I want to find my father and make him regret killing my mother and leaving me to starve. I believe he was the one who forced his mark on me…and I will destroy him for it and take every bit of power he has. Then…I’ll have the power to help us return to Grisic.” Vivian swallowed thickly. “To do that…I’ll need your help reanimating a face I intend to steal.”

Vivian's wishes were many, but they coincided almost exactly with the desires of the Lord Reid. Alistair wanted to father more children with him; he wanted to be his partner, he wanted the two of them to acquire prominence and stability, and to return to Grisic one day. He felt no opposition to helping Vivian achieve his goals, whether they were vendettas or necessary acts for him to obtain closure. Nothing was particularly challenging or disagreeable; they had come back to one another, they had found one another, and their reunification was smoother than he could have even hoped. He felt a sense of relief, both with his son in his arms, and his son's mother and Alistair's future before him.

He had so many ideas, but little words behind them. He barely knew where to begin, but he knew that he wanted to embrace Vivian. The man steadily stepped away, cautioning the other with a reassuring smile as he approached the sofa and gently settled Laurent down. He had fallen asleep, and that provided the mage with the opportunity to let him down and sneak away. He returned to Vivian, lowered himself to match his gaze, and slowly expanded his large arms to wrap around his sides, pulling him in and settling the fair-haired man against him, before the fireplace. Alistair nodded.

"I do love you, Vivian. How could I not? You've given me the one thing I never could have dreamt I'd have," he said, leaning in to kiss the pale-skinned young man on the cheek. A family, was what he meant by that. Vivian and Laurent were the only people that fit that description, to him. "I'd like to give Laurent a sibling with you--and neither he nor that littler child will have ever been a bastard. I never stopped being your partner, alright? I want you to understand that." Alistair's gentle hold became a more intimate embrace, as he stroked the skin of the other through his clothing, nuzzling against his temple.

He breathed him in, and the man's eyes slowly shut. "I'll help you with whatever you want. For now... do you want to go to bed, sweetheart?"

Vivian watched Alistair settle little Laurent down on the couch. The babe had snuggled down in Alistair’s muscular arms and slept, and barely mumbled when he was settled into the cushions. That, more than anything, settled Vivian’s stomach about the entire affair. Laurent was as content witn his father as he was with Vivian. Vivian smiled as Alistair pulled him into his arms, and threw his own around Alistair’s neck. He could forgive him. Time, circumstance and bad luck had all been against them. It was time they stepped forward together.

He settled against Alistair, reaching his hand up to slide through that lovely mass of dark hair. “I love you. Even when I was angry with you, I always loved you.” Vivian said softly. “And I have never stopped being yours.” He had missed this. He had missed being cradled in Alistair’s strong hands and kissed sweetly on his cheek. Vivian couldn’t help but squirm a bit at the promise of more children; gods, who could forget those delicious few days wrapped up in each other? It was enough to make a shiver run down his back. He had never been that sated before.

“I think…bed is an excellent idea.” Vivian whispered, craning his head to look at Alistair, mischief behind his eyes. “I took my old room…but I wouldn’t mind stealing Degare’s very large, very expensive, very comfortable bed.”

Vivian untangled himself from Alistair, rising from the carpet. He leaned in to kiss his partner, his lover, his master, and scooped up Laurent from the couch. “Come to bed with me?” Vivian purred to Alistair. He knew how he looked; white shirt barely covering decency, his long legs on full display, looking down his eyelashes at Alistair. He padded out of the room and upstairs, to the west wing of the home that had always been Degare’s.

Degare’s room was gigantic, with its own fireplace, dominated by a massive bed of black silk. The man had always had a flair for the gothic, and Vivian stood out sharp and milky against it.

Vivian cuddled Laurent up in a spare washbasin, satisfied the baby was clean and asleep, then lit a fire in the fireplace to keep them warm. Happy that the room was staged for when Alistair came upstairs, he arranged himself on the foot of the bed and made a very slow show of unbuttoning his shirt.
