For a moment, the world seemed hazy for the Alistian thief; the sinister smile that his adversary showed, smirking as a mallet was moving closer to his head before being plunged to darkness, only hearing the remnants of her screams before a gurgling of blood. Unsure what has happened other than that; the thief could help but feel his body burn & sensation of searing runs across his body before a sensation of cooling occurred.
The flickering memories of his fight with Dahlia keep replaying in his head, the amount of struggle & strife he had endured under her hand. The constant cackle that was befitting for a wicked lady such as herself, haunts the thief and this would translate to his body jerking in his rest rather violently.
The thief could feel his body being grabbed upon as if it were trying to restrain him; Jared wasn’t sure what is going on around him but the thief could tell that his body was reacting to whatever stimuli it is currently processing & it did not help that his mind was still thinking he was in a fight for his life.
But over time, the thief could feel his body being restrained by something as if someone was doing their best to stop the thief’s body from running rampant and like that, his body felt rather numb; The sensation of pain was dialed to a minimal & his nerves were reacting as violently as compared to a couple of minutes ago.
For a moment; the thief couldn’t help but smell a variety of things; the scent of metallic, various woody, green & aromatic; Even the scent of wood being burnt… Something with Jared told him that he was in some sort of place that was either meant to discard bodies, a place for scholars or something else entirely…
The thief didn’t really spend much time using various public & private amenities since he was a simple commoner and usually spent his time recovering in a secluded place. In fact some of the injuries the thief had sustained in the past had never truly healed, hence the occasional strain that his body had to endure & discomfort when times got too cold as his joints would.
But his thoughts would be disturbed as a strong, chemical & alkalise smell was being sent through his nose. Immediately causing the thief to wake up and curse under his breath as he was choking from the extremely pungent odor.
Coughing & loudly wheezing; the thief would open his amber-hued gaze, letting the senses soak in as to what he was seeing. The room was rather simple in design with a dry beige/cream wall that was uniform in terms of texture, planks of mahogany covering the floors, a simple bed with actual bedding & blanket made of cotton, the place he was currently inhabiting was rather dry & warm as well.
It felt rather safe & warm, like a loved one’s embrace after a rough day of work was the thought that passed by Jared’s mind for a moment as his dull citrine-eyed gaze drifted over across the room. Noting that there was a large window with brass frames & had a floral vine design which was pleasing to the eye.
Another that stood out was the various instruments that were carefully placed around a wooden table with many metal trays, a large wooden bucket that was soaked to the brim with crimson red strips of linen (from what Jared could deduce, this was all from his own body probably). Still the lingering smells of various acids, bases & other associated aromas that one could associate with a medical practice, that was all that Jared could smell.
Hearing the sounds of light footsteps & a clearing of one’s throat; A voice pipes up, the speed of the speech was rather slow & methodical; a tinge of scratchiness that echoes lightly at the end of each phrase & sentence. As Jared’s vision shifts over to this mysterious figure. A long, wavy gray hair that was paired with green eyes was slowly approaching the resting thief who stood almost a foot taller than himself.
With copper brown skin that seems slightly rough & weathered paired with a roundish build. His face was fairly angular, slightly high-cheekbones and a medium-sized beard that was mostly gray with specks of brown here and there. From what Jared could tell, this older man was reaching around his late 40s to early 50s from what he could estimate.
“Seems like they are still alive… I must admit, having a stranger appear at one of my daughter’s homes really surprised the both of us… Not to mention the wounds you sustained… Tell me lad… What were you doing…”
Jared attempted to speak but felt that his voice was stifled, the bits of gurgling caused the thief to breath heavily but was quickly being attended to by the older male.
“No need to speak; I can already tell from your wounds alone that you were fighting someone; Perhaps another mage such as yourself.”
The amber-eyed thief’s eyes were wide open as what this man was saying was true but the thief had to question how this stranger knew he was a magus & just from sheer perception and long-lived life, the stranger spoke up with a slight smirk.
“I know what Umbralplasm is when I see it… You aren’t my first patient that is a Nightfallen & you will not be the last but I must say, you did quite well to preserve yourself… It was hard to peel it off your body without significant effort but at last; I was able to do what needed to be done… Also, consider this as an emergency so you are going to need to pay quite a fair sum & based on my assessment alone, you would need at least a month’s rest under my care…”
As the medical practitioner was discussing the subject of treatment & cost, this was one of the few times that Jared felt that he could not negotiate a better price especially against someone who was far more knowledgeable about his current condition & the thief was in no position to speak at all, literally…
“Well, since it seems like you understand your predicament, I would like to get my fee up front; 1200 for the month stay, material cost plus the emergency operations that were needed. Running a medical practice is expensive & I enjoy getting my bed rest. Consider yourself lucky to be alive, and in good care at least, you can earn back the money one way or another since you are mage after all.”
Taking a moment to look over his body, the thief was fairly covered in bandages that were soaked in but the sensation of his body felt numb as if something was added to his blood to help reduce the discomfort or pain.
Seeing that his equipment & bags set off to the side, the thief takes a moment to manipulate some umbralplasm, acting much like a temporary hand that he could concentrate on while he was still recovering. The thick sludge of blackness slithering its way over to Jared’s belongings & rummaging through the items before pulling a pouch; Pulling out twelfth bills of Dranari, each holding the value of about 100.
Just seeing some of the ‘hard earned’ currency that he just earned suddenly vanish into thin air was enough to make his soul weep a little but material things come & go, and the thief knew it to be so. Besides, the thief could recover the cost at a later date; Better to live than dead & he did what needed to be done.
“I will say this however, the process of recovery will be a bit painful since I will be bringing a variety of tools to stitch the flesh, mend some bones & other assortment of things that would be a bit too grueling to witness. It will be a very painful process but you seem to be well adapted to pain, so all I can say is good luck sir… You will need to endure the restoration process for quite some time but you will be good as new… Maybe I can remove some of those scars since you have so many for a fit person…”
Biting his lips for a moment, the thief just wanted to rest but if the restoration process requires a bit more pain so that he could get back on his feet faster, then so be it. Giving the older man a silent nod to confirm that he was willing to go through the treatment. The stranger merely smiled albeit with a bit of a sinister aura.
“Seems like I am going to enjoy my work for one… Too many people scream, hence why I prefer to work with corpses, but you are good hands for my services as a Necrodoctor will make sure of that.”
With that, Jared could only rely on this so-called professional Necrodoctor to mend his wounds, saddened by the fact that for the first month of Frost, Jared would be out of commission but it was better than nothing.
