"Send Mary to the Clinic." Milana said to the woman in the white robes, "I know we had her at the back tending the children, but we need more people helping my father and brother with the wounded."
Milana's voice was ragged, the normal faint circles beneath her eyes now dark and etched deep into her features as she pushed through the exhaustion. Around her the Manor was bustling. People milled about, moving to and from the entrance to the clinic, to the kitchens, to the gardens and greenhouse. Extra beds were brought from storage to make space for the more seriously injured that could not be fit into the clinic itself. Sections of the entrance hall were walled off by cloth to create makeshift privacy areas and to separate the injured from the foot traffic milling about.
"Send a runner to Cassandra at her shop and tell her we need more cloth strips. Tell her to use whatever cloth she has, even the finer ones so long as they are absorbent." these words were directed at a young man in a guard uniform, who promptly nodded before running off to deliver the order.
Looking around at the activity, Milana suppressed a yawn as she covered her eyes with one hand, shaking her head slightly as if to fight off the growing weariness born from days without adequate rest. Beside her sarah looked at her mistress with concern.
"My lady, maybe you should..."
"No." the words cracked like a whip, making the handmaid flinch slightly and causing Milana a pang a guilt. Her next words came a bit softer, "Now is not the time for rest. I have to ensure the people of Loras are cared for first. Once all of this settles, then..." her words trailed off, and she shook her head. Looking over her shoulder Milana saw Strous staring down at her, face impassive as always, "Is there word from the south gate?"
The bodyguard shook his head slowly, "No information has come from the south gate as of yet."
Though it seemed impossible, the nobles heart dropped further into the pit of her stomach. Closing her eyes Milana took a deep breath, looking forward once more with a sigh, "Take me to the office. There is still more work to be done."
