Lily exists in the gray area of a mixed-blood. She is neither tall nor short, instead falling somewhere in between. Her figure is lean, somewhat muscular, but still feminine in its shape. Her pale skin is pearly and smooth, not as glossy as a full-blooded Siltori, but still contrasts starkly with her bright green eyes. Her ears are more human in size and narrow to a soft point that isn't as distinct as an elf's.
A long scar curves down around her cheek from under her left eye and ends behind the ear. A few more mark her body here and there, standing out fresh and still red on her pale flesh as if recently healed. She isn't a vain woman, but the mark on her face does sometimes make her self-conscious. For years it was instilled that her value largely rested on her appearance which is a state of mind she has a hard time overcoming.
Leliana's white hair is more reminiscent of her Siltori heritage than any other outward characteristic. She lets it do as it pleases most days. Often it is pulled up and kept loosely out of the way, but pieces tend to hang around her ears due to lazy efforts to keep it out of her face. When undone it falls down her back and over her shoulders with a slight wave, curling at the ends.
Nowadays she dresses for comfort on the road, shying away from dresses and flats, preferring sturdy pants and boots as well as other practical accouterments. It's all kept in the best repair that she can manage with the limited supplies and funding currently at her disposal. Lily tries to maintain a certain level of cleanliness along with this but it isn't always possible. She's comfortable tracking around mud if she must.

Leliana is still figuring herself out. She spent years having to be whatever pleased other people, and now that she is free she isn't sure what parts of herself are truly her own aspects or the echoes of what she had to be in order to survive. Given the opportunity she would lend someone a helping hand if it was within her power to do so, but she is largely suspicious of other people. Her fight or flight instincts are particularly strong, and she's been living her life since escaping slavery constantly looking over one shoulder. She can be quick to judge others and lump them into basic categories of good or bad.
Virtues
► Show Spoiler
Curious: Growing up as a slave left her education lacking. She has seen almost nothing of the world, and dabbled in few hobbies or learned new skills that truly felt like her own. Leliana has a hunger to know things now, to dive into the unknown and figure out how it all works.
Dedicated: When Leliana sets a goal, she intends to reach it. She is determined to overcome the stunted start she was dealt in life by growing her skills and base of knowledge. The downside of this is that at times she pushes herself too hard and can have tunnel vision, focusing too much on the outcome and perceived timelines to catch up with other people.
Honest: She feels that it is best to be honest and upfront with others. Leliana spent years having to curb her tongue or say whatever would please others, and not necessarily what they needed to hear for fear of punishment. Now that she is a free woman, she is learning how to speak her mind and do so confidently.
Creative: Leliana learned to think outside the box from a young age. There are usually many solutions to any problem and more than one way to skin a cat. She hasn't always had the best tools at her disposal, and at times just been expected to get something done without any means or know-how. It has made her adaptable and independent.
Flaws
► Show Spoiler
Distrustful: She is a product of her environment, and that environment for many years was hostile. Peace was hard-won and fragile. Being owned as property for most of her life doesn't instill a strong sense of trust in others, especially strangers. Until she is sure of someone's intentions, Leliana doesn't give much away about herself and even then is incredibly vague about her past.
Feisty: A bit of a hothead at times, Leliana can be stubborn and also defensive, especially when it comes to making her own decisions.
Blunt: Although honest, Leliana is still learning how to be such without going too far or being harsh. The fine line between honesty and brutality is hard for her to walk sometimes, and although she is trying to be better at biting her tongue sometimes she enjoys the cathartic release of completely speaking her mind--especially if she doesn't like you.
Cynical: With her upbringing, Lily can find it hard to maintain a positive outlook. She doesn't view the world through rose-colored glasses and sometimes experiences slumps that are hard to pull out of. It doesn't impact her performance as much as her general mood. She keeps moving forward, but can lose sight of a lot of things along the way towards her goals and doesn't enjoy simple pleasures like she should.

Leliana was born into slavery in the realm of Daravin just outside of the city of Amoren. She and her mother Catlyn, among others, were owned by a wealthy merchant and landowner named Maxim Hodge. Catlyn initially was a companion of Maxim's for many years, and for a slave was treated very favorably, almost lavishly. Although he had several other slaves that he kept close, she was his favorite until she met Lily's father. Maxim himself was unable to sire children, so when Catlyn became pregnant he knew immediately that it wasn't his. Instead of killing her though, he demoted her to a lowly house slave, intent on feeding the child to his dogs when it was born.
When Lily was inevitably born though, Maxim seemed to have a change of heart. Instead of killing her, he raised her to be groomed as a replacement companion in Catlyn's place and minimized their contact with each other. He believed it to be a more fitting punishment that death for either of them. For the first several years of her life Leliana was treated well and didn't think much was amiss. She hadn't grasped the concept of her situation or of those around her. Her belly always had food, she had a warm bed, and nice clothes. There were toys to play with, and Maxim was kind to her.
She never saw the bruises hidden discreetly under sleeves and skirts, and was in bed long before the others cried themselves to sleep. Her's and the older companions grooming her had quarters tucked away from all other slaves, including her mother, and in her bubble all was right in the world. As she grew a little older, she started to see and understand more.
Lily often questioned why she had such limited time to spend with her mother. At first she was convinced that her mother was simply too busy, but right before her 10th birthday her mother came to her in the night to try to take her away. They and a few other slaves fled that night, but they didn't get far. Maxim's men caught up with them quickly. There was begging and pleading all around, but Leliana was too overwhelmed to understand much of what was going on.
Most of that night is a haze in her memory now, except when they were brought back to the estate. Maxim let out his hounds then. She remembers that part clearly. Watching her mother and the other slaves that had tried to escape be torn apart by dogs changed something in her. She wasn't as naive after that, and realized that her life was most definitely not what it had seemed. For several years all she could do was play the role her master wanted the best she could, all the while dreaming of escape. Some of the others helped protect her from his attentions along the way, but over time there were fewer and fewer that survived his wrath or his dogs.
As she grew into a woman she became an exotic trophy to Maxim. Lorded before guests at dinner parties at his side, over and over like a prized mare from his herd. It was at one of his lavish gathers that a stranger came. He was different from all of the familiar faces she often saw at these affairs--a quiet Siltori man whom introduced as a travelling historian by the name of Arangyl Ela'Morian. This meeting was the most significant event since the death of her mother, for later that evening Maxim was too drunk to keep a keen eye on her. The Siltori stranger managed to get her alone in the library under the guise of a tour.
The revelation he gave her changed her life forever. He was her father, and he would be taking her away immediately. She had no desire to question him, and in fact had no time to do so. Within the brief span of those few minutes, he opened a portal and they were gone. Not only did she suddenly have the freedom she had been dreaming of for years, but was also reeling the discovery of her newfound sire.
It was a hard conversation to have, learning that he had passed through nearly 25 years prior and never realized his brief time spent with her mother had resulted in a child, and his learning of her untimely death at the hands of Maxim after the failed escape attempt. Leliana herself learned much in a very short amount of time. She has a half-brother in Sil-Elaine, he and their father are competent mages, and after travelling with him briefly to Atinaw for business they would return so that she could meet her new family.
The initial portal created inside Maxim's library took them to the foothills of Scorchrim Mountains, and they quickly fled into the rocky peaks to put as much distance as possible between them and Amoren. The following months Arangyl took it upon himself to teach Leliana how to take care of herself. Not only did this entail surviving on the road and in the wilds, but also how to fight. Eventually, this led to her initiation into the arcane. The latter took some convincing, but ultimately her father agreed. Under his protective care she made it through not only one but two separate initiations, Reaving and Transposition. It seemed that her Siltori blood helped her resist some of the rigors of initiation, but just barely.
By the time they arrived in Atinaw they had found a comfortable routine, learning about each other and finding a new normal. She was finding herself happy and hopeful for the first time in nearly 15 years, but their fragile bubble was burst rather quickly on the other side of the border. One way or another, Maxim's men tracked them down. They caught up late one night as Lily and her father were preparing to sleep. Relaxing around the fire talking about family history, the slave hunters ambushed them.
It was a hurried frenzy and a blur of swords, crossbow bolts, her father's desperate shouts trying to instruct her how to fend them off, and ultimately the command to run. He was a powerful man but significantly outnumbered and handicapped by a novice. In his last effort before they were completely overwhelmed, Arangyl opened a portal and pushed her through. Leliana tumbled into darkness, falling through tree branches and spinning out of control before the forest floor rushed up to meet her.
When she awoke again it was still night. Tree frogs and crickets hummed in the tall pines around her. All else was silent. She was alone.
Days later she stumbled onto a road, weak from her wounds sustained in the fight, disoriented, cold, and hungry. She followed it for as long as she could before stopping to sit by the roadside, resigned to her new uncertain fate. As if by the grace of the Gods though, she was found by a passing trade caravan. Any suspicions she may have had were outweighed by thirst and hunger, and the group hastily took her in to treat her wounds. She traveled with them for several more months, healing and hoping, but the hope never paid off. There were no more signs of Maxim's men, but also no trace of her father either.
Eventually they reached the capital of Alfsos, just in time for the start of Searing and the holiday. It was here that Lily decided to part ways before the caravan left for their next stop and begin her lone search for answers. Somewhat more pressing at this time too, a place to stay while she planned.
