Watching as his shadow-infused cloak returned to its shabby, tattered state of rustic browns that fray around the edges & varying degrees of holes. The amber-eyed thief was thankful that there weren’t any guards currently patrolling the hallways at this very moment, from what he could gather; the majority of the security was dedicated to the exterior of the building, but that did not mean he could rest for the thief in question still in enemy territory.

Laying low to the ground, the amber-eyed thief begins pacing at a slow, skulking pace as he hunches forward & begins to examine his surroundings. Anything that he could pocket at this point was worthy of something to the right buyer; From his previous experience, Jared had a habit of trying to steal the most exquisite items from gleaming brooches, elegant necklaces & antiques.

But over the years working as a thief, He would quickly learn that stealing such items often raises a bit of awareness & taking miscellaneous items such as ornate candlesticks, ink bottles & other things that the public eye wouldn’t miss and what yields the most consistent stream of income in his personal opinion.

Seeing a few things that Jared could take, such as some copper chalices with silver filigree, copper ewer & some crystalline goblets. Letting his light fingers pinch the edges of each item, the alistian rogue takes a moment to coat each item in a layer of umbralplasm as if he was bubble wrapping his stolen goods to maintain the quality of the item. After all, damaged goods do not sell well to any buyer.

“Nothing too fancy, but at least it can sell for a bit.”

While it was true that Jared was aiming a bit too low when it came to stealing merely ornate cups, pitchers, ink bottles & the like, at least he was getting something compared to trying to go big & bust. He was still lurking in the hallway with his makeshift satchel filled with valuable miscellaneous trinkets & baubles.

The amber-eyed thief continues to lurk about, moving ever so slowly as he maintains his quiet stance but closes the distance to a nearby door. Planting his ear against the mahogany door, the faint sounds of wood cracking as if a fire was present indicated that he was either enter into a kitchen or possibly another study or even a living room. Whatever the case may be, a peek into the room is required before any further attempts in; opening the door slightly, leaving it ajar; the amber-eyed thief could see that there were multiple island benches, pots & firewood.

He mentally agreed that this room was indeed a mess hall or a massive kitchen. The amber-eyed thief takes a moment to produce a tiny amount of umbralplasm to drip into the door hinges to stifle any sound to prevent alerting anyone nearby. Once the action was done, Jared was comfortable enough to push the door further open, just enough to be able to slip by the gap before closing the door behind him.
From the thief’s perspective, the kitchen was large enough to house a dozen or more works of various specialities & experience from kitchen hands to chefs of multiple degrees. There were a couple of items that Jared would like to nab for his usage, such as numerous jars of spices & other ingredients that he could use or pawn off as spice, sugar & other refined goods that often sell for a reasonable price, hell even salt was considered a luxury item for the majority of people.

“Well, it seems like I hit the jackpot…. Well, maybe I could find some buyers for a jar of spices and should earn a good amount.”

Taking a moment to look about, the entire room seemed to be abandoned as the only thing actively making noise was the cast iron pot sitting over the fire in the hearth, as if it was in progress of being cooked. Based on the smell, the hints of boiled or stewed meat leave behind bits of sulfurous & peppery aromas. The innate curiosity of the thief & his relative skills as a professional cook make the thief loom closer to the bubbling pot.

As he was making his way over to the stewing pot, the amber-eyed thief casually snatches a couple of jars that were filled with a variety of spices & powdered ingredients such as the soft, fragrant buds of dried clove, sticks of rolled cinnamon, small pouches of peppercorn & much more.

Finally approaching the cauldron being heated over the hearth, Jared took a moment to peer over to see the contents of the pot. From what he could tell, it would seem to be a light soup of sorts with various flavoring agents such as carrots, scallions & ground meat, to name a few.

“What is the chef making… It looks like some Consommé; you have your typical mirepoix, tomatoes… I wonder what it tastes like….”

Taking a moment to look around for an unused spoon, the thief quickly takes a small scoop of the consommé, pulling his black cloth down for a moment as he blows gently onto the liquid before tasting; the thief couldn’t help but wince as the flavor seems a bit lackluster in his personal opinion.

“Eh… Many things that could be improved but better not touch… Or else someone would think it has been tampered with… Still, it is a shame that such a good soup would taste so dull….”

Feeling a bit of his soul being torn apart as he had to leave the semi-decent soup without making any modifications to it. The amber-eyed thief was on the job, and he needed to find something noteworthy to take, but something caught his eye; some of the stonework seemed a bit off, in his opinion.

Quickly making a few leaps & strides over to the walls that house a variety of dried goods—placing his hands on the cold stone wall. The thief takes a moment to drag his leather-covered fingers across the stone surface, looking for anything odd such as a divet in the stone or an irregularity of the stone texture, such as it being smoother than it should be when it comes to making a wall.

After a couple of minutes of fiddling around with the wall, the amber-eyed thief noted that a piece of stone was rather loose compared to the surrounding bricks. Taking a moment to grab the brick with all the edges, Jared puts a bit more might as he attempts to dislodge the brick from its place.

A couple of attempts passed, but the stone was firmly rooted. Slightly annoyed by it, Jared coated the brick in a thin layer of Umbralplasm with the use of Compass before conjuring up a rope to which he began to pull with all his might; it wouldn’t take much force to remove the piece out of the wall finally, but stone piece created some noise as the brick flies out of its slot and lets out a loud thud onto the floor.

Clenching his teeth as the noise seems louder than necessary, Jared froze in place as he carefully listened to any odd sounds outside the wood crackling in the blaze within the hearth.

“Did you hear something?”

“Yea sounds like it was coming from the kitchen.”

“Alright, I am going to go and take a look; it might be one of the cooks dropping a pot or something or a rat running about.”

Hearing that a guard was about to enter the kitchen, Jared couldn’t help but panic for a moment as his eyes darted to find a suitable hiding spot. Then, quickly shaping his Umbralplasm to make up a Stratrum; the citrine-eyed thief makes a whip-like motion to the fallen brick, allowing the liquefied shadow to stick to the block before reeling it back into his hand.

Inserting the stone back to its spot, albeit loosely, The thief could see that the door handle across the room was twisting and turning, with very little time left to dart for cover. Instead, the nightfallen magus had to resort to a new skill that he had developed & honed in the past with his mutation.

“Not sure how this will work but for the love of god… Please work…”

Darkening the shadows around himself, the alistian thief would form up his Obscura to form the base of his plan; as the shadows blended into what little darkness was available. The thief takes a moment to picture himself fading out of existence. The Expert-level Nightfallen would use one of his more recently developed mutations known as Enshroud as his visual body so he would disappear into nothing & leaving behind a faint distortion as if the light was curving away but so too does his vision of the world fading to blackness.

All the thief could do was stand still & listen as he could hear the sounds of heavy plate armor move into the room. With the air of suspense looming over him, the thief could only hope to maintain his pseudo-invisibility just long enough for the guard to lose interest in the kitchen.
