TIME STAMP

Taking a moment to watch over his kindred-spirited ‘friend’ pull up a stool and take a seat from his location; The question as to why a thief was working at a bakery is an interesting question to pose, but the answer was simple enough for the amber-eyed male.

“It’s pretty simple, really; I am merely working at a bakery as another source of income while I am recovering; The season of Searing was a bit rough for me & the exaggerating of one’s body requires time to recover under less stressful situations. It is not a no-brainer to go under a more civilian lifestyle as it tends to draw less attention when the pot you are stirring becomes a bit too hot.”

Jared couldn’t help but chuckle underneath his black yet slightly dusty face cloth that he used to cover the lower half of his face to limit the amount of lip-reading someone could do. After all, most cues picked up by another person are often through their body language.

“I can make racks of bread if I dedicate enough time. A few loaves of bread missing is a minor setback but getting caught by the guards is another thing. Don’t rouse infamy, do you know? And you wouldn’t advertise that you were a thief, unlike some people; I can fall back to when the going tough.”

Seeing that Vivian merely shrugged, the amber-eyed nightfallen mage didn’t bat an eye at the motion. After all, Jared could understand where the effeminate male was coming from as thieves tend to have their grimy fingers on all sorts of things, from items to people. What you believe is yours is also a thief’s possession if you don’t guard it well enough.

Taking a moment to listen to Vivian’s tale about what a Malformist is, Jared took a moment to listen carefully, discerning what information was necessary & what could be stored in the back of his brain. Although the subject of magic is fascinating for Jared as he was competent in understanding specific topics compared to your usual commoner, the lack of resources for a higher education limits and potentially stunts his growth for achieving possibly more incredible things.

“I see, so what you are telling me is that you use a form of magic that allows connecting with various animals on a deeper level, like a mutual bond that is then used to mimic multiple animal features. Interesting, and bugs aren’t as odd as people might think; everything is placed in this world for a reason, whether we know it or not. Just like a ripple in a pool of water, the smallest changes alter the fate of another.”

Seeing his malformist ‘friend’ lick his lips, the thief could only ponder for a moment as to why such an action took place. It was only then that Vivian’s intentions or suggestions revealed another topic that the apprentice thief didn’t want to delve into.

“Ummmm… About payment… There is no need to do so…. Just happy to teach a fellow gutter-rat how to care for themselves.”

Most of the time, Jared was often seen as a composed individual. Takes a moment to conjure up plans within plans before executing them with a certain degree of precision. Yet, in this very moment, the acts of seduction to the other innocent man have caught the thief off-guard, so much so that he starts to stutter as his neck, ears & cheeks turn a deeper hue of red as blood beings to rush towards his face.

“We um… can get to making ah…. The stew!!!! Yes! Just need to get back my work here!!!”

It was from there that the amber-eyed thief immediately gets up from his seat as if a stiff board was flung straight up into the air, as the embarrassed rogue quickly makes his way over to the other side of the room, reaching for any flour or dough that he could knead and make biscuits within an attempts to distract himself from this inflamed situation.

Vivian nodded. "I can understand that." He said lightly, putting his chin in his hand and watching Jared for a moment. "You know, it's always good to have a fallback. I'm recovering too, and I can't do much with...well. Kid gets in the way. Entitled little brat already knows he's half royalty. I'm hoping the half street rat will keep him sane." He winked. "I've always thought I'd just be a prostitute, but this magic has changed me a lot. Growing in it has changed me a lot. I've got...power now. Street rats don't get power. I want to use it to help others. It's not literally making the food of the gods, but it's something."

He smiled at Jared. He got Malformity. He at least understood. Even Alistair didn't understand it as much. He was growing a lot of affection for his lover, but there were some things he needed to teach him about his magic. Perhaps if he learned more he wouldn't be so disgusted. "You know, empaths make good natural Malformists." Vivian pointed out with a knowing smirk. He was looking for an apprentice in Malformity, but perhaps not until his child was born. Even so, he could at least start learning what he wanted in a candidate. Someone like Jared was a start.

Of course, once he stopped blushing. Vivian laughed as he sputtered and blushed. He couldn't see his cheeks or lips, but his ears were turning a charming shade of crimson. Oh, he loved the innocent ones! They were so cute. Vivian got up from the stool; he'd been feeling a little less like himself lately. Maybe a little flirting was what he needed? He smiled and leaned over Jared's shoulder. "Are you sure?" he whispered into his ear. "You haven't lived until you've felt the tongue of a Malformist." he reached out with his tongue, letting it bloom and branch into the spidery, weblike tongue of a flatworm. The delicate little fronds brushed against Jared's ear ever so lightly before Vivian straightened up and leaned against the counter The little nudge of ether was just as easy to let go, and his tongue folded back into a normal shape. "Pity, you're missing out. How can I help? Put me to work."

As Vivian begins to chuckle at his embarrassed status, the amber-eyed thief doesn’t see how much fun the Malformist is receiving by playing around with Jared’s insecure nature about various topics.

“I am sure! In fact, I am so sure that I need to get back to work or else the owner will raise being curious as to where I am!”

Taking a moment to gather a large sack of flour, the thief takes a moment to look over at his new acquaintance, who is still playing around with the idea of making a possible encounter, and while the concept does seem nice; Jared is more focused on recovering & getting his work done as well as maintaining his relationship with Alistair.

“I bet it is fun but can’t do that now. Either way, I can teach you a few things but not today; I have a lot of work to do, and I can try to put in a word or two for you to spend some time here. Learning a thing or two and you can be a taste-tester for new ideas & concepts!”

As Jared begins to move things around, the thief takes a moment to look over at Vivian once more before speaking up.

“Also, I suggest that you make your way out for now. This is a restricted area; if the owner catches you, you might get the guards involved! There isn’t much work that I can offer you at the moment, but I will need some time to figure out what I can do; this is also based on the fact that the owner will take you to work. Many things need to be considered; Also, don’t eat too many loaves or else, the owner would be weary about the missing loaves, a few loaves are fine, but too many will tighten security and guard patrols.”

With that, Jared leaves the Malformist to his own devices as he needs to return to his workstation, a bit of time did pass for sure, but at the very least; the journeyman baker had an excuse that he could fabricate on the fly without raising suspicious activities.

Poor thing practically exploded into productivity out of sheer embarassment!

Vivian smirked as Jared babbled and struggled to get back to work, leaning easily on the counter. Sweet little thing. Ah well, Vivian wasn't going to push him too hard. He'd said no, and Vivian did prize consent above all else. It was nice to know he could still make a man blush from his head to his feet even when he was this pregnant. Honestly, it made him want to give Jared a freebie, the little pastry. He watched him lug around a full sack of flour and babble about not teaching him today and having a lot of work to do.

"It's alright, handsome. I'll be back in the evening after work and we can make that stew you promised." Vivian said gently, trying to calm him down a bit. "Trust me, most bakers have two things in common; harpies for wives and a desperate need to unload some stress. I'm sure your boss will overlook me with a few minutes of time in his office." He winked. Vivian patted Jared's shoulder, and headed toward the backdoor. "I'll be back when the sun sets and your clientele has eased off a bit."

Vivian slid out of the backdoor, turning his head to watch Jared hard at work. "Cute little thing. Pity, I was looking forward to brushing flour off my ass." he chuckled, and strolled down the street.
